The Archbishop of Onitsha, His Grace, Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, has issued a heartfelt appeal to Christians to shun sin and choose what is good at all times. During a recent pastoral visit, the prelate emphasized the importance of making wise choices and living a life that aligns with God’s will.
“We are at a critical juncture in our lives,” Archbishop Okeke warned. “The choices we make today will shape our tomorrow. Sin ultimately leads to spiritual and social harm, and it’s our responsibility to choose what is good.”
Drawing inspiration from Scripture, the Archbishop cited Sirach (15:15-20), Corinthians (2:6-10), and Matthew (5:17-37) to underscore the principles of retributive justice and the consequences of human actions. He explained that God, through the Holy Spirit, has revealed His saving plan to humanity, granting each person the freedom to choose between good and evil.
“Every choice we make has consequences,” Archbishop Okeke stressed. “We become what we choose. Let us pray for the spirit of discernment, that we may choose what is good and pleasing to God.”
According to him, individuals must bear the consequences of their choices, which are inherently tied to moral law. He urged the faithful to be mindful of their decisions and to prioritize love, compassion, and justice in all aspects of life.
