The Executive Chairman of Idemili South Local Government Council, Hon. Amaka Obi (Iyom Ifeabata), has charged school children to avoid all tendencies that may compromise their future. The chairman made the charge while delivering a speech during a colorful event staged at the council’s headquarters to mark this year’s Children’s Day.
She noted that the theme of this year’s Children’s Day, “Tapping the Untapped Natural Treasure,” highlights the immense yet often ignored potential of the Nigerian child. Hon. Obi disclosed that her council is currently running a three-month skills acquisition training program for improved well-being and youth self-employment.
The council is also commencing a “Back to School” project initiative, where they intend to share school bags produced in the council to primary and secondary schools in the LGA. Additionally, they plan to supply teaching aids/learning materials for improved and effective learning processes.

Hon. Obi highlighted that the council has provided streetlights in health centers and schools to support the children adequately. The council is also set to kick off a spelling bee and inter-school quiz competition. Furthermore, the council is enforcing the right to education and protection from abuse, such as child slavery and trafficking.
The council boss eulogized the Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for providing dividends of democracy, especially in education, health, and road infrastructure. She commended the governor for constructing new government houses and other developmental projects within three years in office.
Hon. Obi called on parents to join the present administration in creating an enabling environment and synergy that will enable the leaders in Anambra to evolve a state that is indeed fit for children to realize positive dreams.
The Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Idemili South LGA chapter, Comrade Innocent Edoziuno, and others who spoke to the press, poured encomiums on the chairman, testifying that the LGA is witnessing speedy grassroots development and transformation under her administration, describing her as “Madam Project.”
