A Mass of wake was held in honor of Prof. Bartholomew Ifeanyichukwu Nwagu (KSM) at Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, on Thursday, November 7, 2024. The homilist, Rev. Fr. Dr. Julian Ibe, described Prof. Nwagu as a man of positive impact and influence.
“His exit creates a void that cannot be filled,” Fr. Ibe said. “We pray that his family and all affected find solace in the hope of Resurrection.”
Fr. Ibe catechized the faithful: “Dear friends in Christ, as we mourn our loss, we thank God for Prof. Nwagu’s life. As humans, it’s a loss, but as Christians, it’s a gain. He lives on after death.”
Prof. Ferdinand Asuke, Chairman of the Parish Council, thanked attendees and shared his personal experience with Prof. Nwagu, who mentored him and others.
Barr. Kenneth Nwagu, the deceased’s younger brother, delivered a vote of thanks: “We find consolation in your presence. His death is unprepared, but we thank God. We’ll continue to ask for your prayers.”
Prof. Stephen Oluigbo, Grand Knight of the Order of Knights of St. Mulumba, attested to Prof. Nwagu’s dedication to the Catholic Church.
Dachung Dalyop Dnne from NAPRI described Prof. Nwagu as a man of peace, active researcher, and mentor.
In a condolence message, Prof. M.R. Hassan, Executive Director of NAPRI, praised Prof. Nwagu’s thoroughness, hard work, and constructive criticism.
Prof. Nwagu was Parishioner of Our Lady’s Parish , a 4th Degree Knight of St. Mulumba, President, Senior Staff Club, NAPRI, Cabinet Secretary, Ezeigbo Traditional Council, Member of Igbo Community Association and Igbo Senior Staff Association.
He developed the indigenous poultry layer foundation stock ‘SHIKABROWN’ with a team of scientists.
Survived by wife, Mrs. Flora Oroni Nwagu and three children.
Prof. Nwagu passed away on July 28, 2024, at 68. His burial will take place at Abaomege, Onicha LGA, Ebonyi State.
