In a bid to slash drastically the high cost of transportation in the state, and as well reduce insecurity occasioned by it to the barest minimum, the Ministry of Transport Anambra State, on Friday, 22nd November, handed down an official operational certificate to Bolt, the popular ride-hailing platform, formerly known as Taxify.
Presenting the operational certificate to the Bolt team, the State Commissioner for Transport, Barr. (Mrs) Patricia Ifeoma Igwebuike, said the Bolt Services were needed in Anambra State to help put away the high cost of transportation and reduce insecurity in Anambra State to the barest minimum.
According to her, ‘It is something the state government had been looking forward to and it is a welcome development.’
Her words, ‘Today, the 22nd November, 2024, the Anambra Government, through the Ministry of Transport, is officially recognizing you with this certificate. You are now free to operate and extend your operations to Anambra State. The operational certificate is officially handed over to your company by the Anambra Government through the Ministry of Transport.’
Receiving the certificate on behalf of the Bolt Nigeria, Ewoma Jerry-Ogeme, the company’s Public Policy Specialist, said the expansion was part of the company’s contributions to bringing convenience and reliable transportation services closer to its customers, especially during festive season.
Jerry-Ogeme assured the Anambra Government of quality services to residents of the state, announcing that Anambra was the third State Bolt services was launched in the South East Region after Enugu and Imo States.
In a their separate speeches, the representatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC); the Nigeria Police Force NPF; Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA); Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), urged the management of the company to always caution her operators on road traffic rules in the state, even as they also promised to fully support the company.
