At exactly 1:18pm on July 14,2023,the Metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha lowered the remains of late Rev Fr Cyril Eze,a priest of the Archdiocese of Onitsha who died on Friday,26th May 2023.
Until his death,late Fr Cyril Eze was a resident priest at St Michael Parish,Fegge,Onitsha.
He died at the age of 70.
Before his burial,a funeral mass was celebrated for his peaceful repose where many sympathisers which included priests,religious and relatives converged on the Basilica of the most Holy Trinity,Onitsha to pay him last respect.
While making a remark during the mass, Archbishop Okeke described late fr Cyril as a good man who has lived and died as God willed for him.
The Archbishop prayed for divine consolation on the family and all others affected by his death adding that fr Cyril during his life time discharged his priestly duties with “distinguished excellence”.
Delivering his homily,Rev Fr Jude Mgbobukwa described fr Cyril as a “very keen and hard-working”priest.
He disclosed that the Archbishop did all that was necessary to save his life but that God’s will prevailed.
Fr Mgbobukwa said fr Cyril Eze was never in the mood to complain at the height of his illness but rather lived a life of gratitude till the end.
Chancellor of the Archdiocese Rev Fr Prudentius Emeka Aroh in his vote of thanks,described Fr Cyril as a gifted priest who was endowed with self fulfilment by God adding that before he died,the late priest had requested to the Archbishop to be dispensed from the parish to take care of himself;a request the Chancellor said was rare among many.
