The Chief Shepherd of Onitsha Archdiocese His Grace Most Rev. Valerian Okeke has encouraged Christians to embody the spirit of sacrifice, motivated by love.
The prelate made the call while delivering a homily during a Holy Mass that kick started the 7th matriclation ceremony of St Charles Borromeo College of Nursing Sciences, Onitsha. He emphasized that true discipleship requires willingness to make sacrifices for the benefit of others.
Archbishop Okeke emphasized that sacrifice is an essential aspect of Christian living. He encouraged believers to embrace sacrifice as a means of deepening their faith and serving others.
Describing love as the driving force, the local ordinary stressed that sacrifices should be made with love, not out of obligation or duty. “Love transforms sacrifices into acts of worship, reflecting Christ’s ultimate sacrifice.”
He reminded Christians to follow Jesus’ selfless example. As Jesus sacrificed Himself for humanity, believers should similarly sacrifice for the well-being of others.
“My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
As we strive to live out our faith, let us remember that sacrifice is an integral part of our Christian journey. We are called to make sacrifices, not out of duty, but out of love.
Let us draw inspiration from Christ’s ultimate sacrifice on the cross. As He gave Himself for us, we too should sacrifice for the benefit of others.
May our sacrifices be motivated by love, and may they bring us closer to God and to one another.
Let us pray for the grace to make sacrifices with love, and may our lives be transformed by the power of selfless giving.
By embracing sacrifice with love, Christians can deepen their faith, foster stronger communities, and reflect the transformative power of Christ’s love.”
