The Metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha,Most Rev Valerian Okeke on Saturday offered special prayers for quick recovery of the ailing head of Roman Catholic Church,Pope Francis.
The special prayers was held inside the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity,Onitsha during a Mass to commemorate the feast of Chair of St Peter.The Archbishop explained that it providential that the prayers fell on the day marking the hand over of the keys of the kingdom of heaven to Apostle Peter by Jesus Christ for which he in turn,handed over to his successors down to the Popes and Bishops.
Speaking before the prayer session,Chancellor of the Archdiocese Rev Fr Prudentius Aroh apprised the congregation on the Pope’s illness which he said was the challenge of respiratory problem affecting his lungs.
The Chancellor expressed hope that with the fervent prayers of the clergy,the religious and the lay faithful,the Pope’s health will improve for the better.
He disclosed that the Pope was admitted at the Gemelli hospital in Rome where doctors were battling to save his life.
