St. Charles Borromeo Specialist Hospital in Onitsha marked a significant milestone on Saturday, July 19, with the inauguration of the CADO-MED International Lecture Series. The event was graced by the Archbishop of Onitsha, and Metropolitan of Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, His Grace Most Rev. Valerian M. Okeke.
The inaugural lecture took place at the CADO-MED International Conference and Virtual Learning Center, St. Charles Borromeo Specialist Hospital, Onitsha. This innovative virtual learning platform provides hospital staff, students of St. Charles Borromeo College of Nursing Science, and other healthcare providers from within and outside Anambra State, the opportunity to receive lectures and interact with overseas members of different Medical University Facilities
During the lecture, Archbishop Okeke expressed satisfaction with the new learning system, stating that it will equip hospital workers and nursing students with current knowledge in their profession. He thanked the convener, Prof. Fidelis Okey Mkparu, for his efforts in making the international lecture series a reality and commended the guest lecturers, Rev. Fr. Dr. Eva Uche Okaa Onwuogu and April Eichner, for their impactful contributions.


The Archbishop also appreciated the CEO of St. Charles Borromeo Specialist Hospital, Rev. Fr. Dr. Izunna Okonkwo, for facilitating the e-learning initiative, describing it as a welcome development.
Prof. Mkparu, a renowned cardiologist at Northeast Ohio Medical University, extolled the Archbishop for creating an enabling environment for the program, describing him as a prelate with a high vision for humanity. He pledged to make the e-learning initiative a continuous one to assist medical personnel and nurses in following global practices in healthcare delivery.
The CEO of the hospital, Rev. Fr. Dr. Izunna Okonkwo, expressed gratitude to the Archbishop for his unwavering support, crediting him with the hospital’s numerous successes. He also thanked Prof. Mkparu, and his team for the distance learning initiative, noting that it will enhance learning and ensure sustainable quality healthcare delivery.
The guest lecturers delivered insightful presentations, with Fr. Okaa Onwuogu advising healthcare workers to provide the best treatment to patients, treating them like kings, and advocating for patients’ access to full information about their health. April Eichner emphasized the critical role of nurses in advancing patient-centered care beyond traditional norms.
