The appointment of Mr Ikem Asika as the South East Zonal Vice Chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), has been hailed by the Anambra State Chapter.
Asika’s appointment was contained in a letter signed by Benjamin Isaiah and Ikenna Okonkwo, the National President and Secretary General, respectively dated July 1, following his nomination by chairmen of chapters in the zone as a replacement for Frankie Omokhua who was sacked by the SWAN Full Council in Kano on May 1 this year.
The letter read, “I write to inform you that your nomination as Vice President, South East, in the Isaiah Benjamin-led administration has been approved by NEC.
“The appointment, which automatically makes you a NEC and Full Council member, gives you another opportunity to serve the
Association in line with the responsibilities of the office as spelt out in the SWAN Statute.
“Therefore, you are expected to justify the confidence reposed in you
by the President and NEC in carrying out your duties for the growth
of the Association”.
In his congratulatory message, Mr Chimezie Anaso, Chairman of SWAN in Anambra, hailed the National Leadership of the body for, according to him, doing well by approving the nomination of Asika whose emergence, he said, resonated well with the heartbeat of the zone.
Anaso said, ‘The appointment will definitely provide a clearer direction for the association in the zone and strengthen the existing bond among members.
‘I have unwavering confidence in his ability to discharge his duty creditably with tact, fairness, firmness, humility and candour.
‘On behalf of chairmen and members of the Sports Press in the five states of the Southeast Zone and Anambra in particular, I want to appreciate the Benjamin Isaiah-led NEC for approving the nomination of Ikemefuna Asika as Vice President, South East Zone.’
