Our Lady Queen of Peace Pariah Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria played host to the priests of the Catholic Diocese of Zaria who had their first meeting of the year in the parish on Tuesday, 13th February 2024.Delivering the homily at the concelebrated opening Mass which was presided over by Rev Fr Christopher James, Rev Fr Anthony Adams Kumbo hinged his homily on the day’s readings in charging participants to run to Jesus first rather than make Him last resort.
The clergyman explained that trials may come as a result of one’s faithfulness to God or as a result of their human weakness. He referenced the disciples of Jesus in the Gospel as those who argued among themselves rather than approach Him with their challenges.
“Jesus is the only One Person who can bring lasting solution to our trials.”The homilist told them. “At slightest challenge we run from one person to the other looking for solutions. It is when we have exhausted those means that we come to Jesus as the last option when He is supposed to be our first option.
So today, we are reminded that as Christians, as human beings we will continue to face trials, we will continue to face challenges. However, we should ask ourselves, ‘which form of trial am I facing? Am I facing challenges because I am standing for the cause of right or because I refuse to follow the will of God?
Whatsoever situation we find ourselves, we should submit our challenges to Jesus and He will bring about lasting solution to our problems.”In his vote of thanks, the Chairman of Parish Council, Prof Ferdinand Asuke thanked the priests for holding their first meeting of the year in the parish. He also thanked parishioners for their support and presence at the Mass praying God to reward them abundantly.
