A Political Scientist and Unionist, Comrade Elvis Okolie, has described the Anambra State Local Government Administration Law as a deliberate attempt by the State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, to twist the Supreme Court’s judgement on Local Government Autonomy.
Comrade Okolie made the submission while speaking with newsmen in Awka, recently.
Okolie, who described a Supreme Court’s judgement as a law, expressed shock on the emergence of the law, wondering why should Anambra State Assembly accept a bill that runs contrary to Nigeria’s Apex Court’s judgement?
‘I want to believe that they know what they are doing because they are not disconnected from the National Assembly.
‘There is no law they are authorized to make that will be at variance with the laws made by the National Assembly,’ the political scientist said and argued that trying to twist the Supreme Court’s judgement might be for the mean time.
He said if Nigeria had a court of law and court of justice, the whole thing would end in a court of law, adding that the country cannot have laws that are operating at variance.
He expressed the belief that if the federal allocations for local government and agricultural system were judiciously harnessed, youths would be meaningfully engaged, resulting in automatic reduction in crime rate in Nigeria.
