By Ononye VC
All is now set for the official erection of the new Catholic Diocese of Aguleri under the Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province on Friday, 17th March 2023, at St Joseph Cathedral, Aguleri.
It is going to be a historic event as hundreds of the faithful, priests and religious will gather to witness the installation of the first bishop of the diocese, the Most Rev. Denis Chidi Isizoh.
It is expected that the apostolic nuncio to Nigeria,
Archbishop Antonio Guido Filipazzi, will preside over the event with other bishops in attendance.
The new Aguleri Diocese is one of the numerous dioceses created out of the Archdiocese of Onitsha. It would be recalled that not long ago, Pope Francis created the Ekwulobia Diocese from the Archdiocese of Onitsha.
Bishop Isizoh, before his elevation as the bishop of the Aguleri Diocese, was the auxillary bishop of Onitsha.
He was born on January 24, 1956; ordained as a priest on September 28, 1985; and consecrated auxiliary bishop of Onitsha on May 1, 2015.
He worked at the Vatican where he garnered much experience that grounded him for the journey ahead. He hails from Ogbunike in the Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.
