Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has urged President Bola Tinubu to order a thorough investigation into the withdrawal of military personnel from a school in Kebbi State shortly before it was attacked by bandits, resulting in the kidnapping of students.
Speaking during a parliamentary session, Abaribe referenced a statement by the Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris who alleged that security operatives stationed at the school were directed to leave, creating a security gap that allowed the attackers to operate unhindered.
“The Governor of Kebbi said someone ordered the troops out, and people were kidnapped. Till today, nobody in Nigeria knows what happened. No questions have been asked,” Abaribe said. “We sit here as parliament, talking and talking, yet somebody is responsible.”
He insisted that President Tinubu must demonstrate leadership by identifying and holding accountable the officer who gave the order for the withdrawal. According to Abaribe, enforcing accountability within the security structure is essential to preventing future tragedies.
The Senator warned that without decisive action, similar security lapses will persist, further weakening public confidence in the government’s ability to safeguard its citizens.
