The recent legislation made by the Nigerian national legislature for the changing of the country’s national anthem has continued to keep tongues wagging in different comments by patriotic Nigerians. Speaking on variety of issues during the just concluded laity week at SS John and Paul catholic church, lba pope Awada, a catholic priest in the Onitsha Archdiocese, Rev. Fr Valentine Obiagwu deplored the recent legislation made by the members of the national assembly over national anthem stating that is no a panacea to Nigerian economic problems, emphasizing that there are important national issues to legislate upon.
Rev. Fr. Valentine Obiagwu who is the founder of the organisation known for recreating of values lamented that the country’s legislative assembly should have concentrated on legislations aimed at revamping our battered economy, rising unemployment, cyber cafe crime, kidnapping, corruption and other heinous crimes bedeviling the country.
The catholic clergy suggested aggressive revolution in agriculture as a sure means of reducing hunger and unemployment, noting, that a hungry man is an angry man and an angry man is an unreasonable person any where, any time.
He suggested that if the federal government could make a provision capable of employing five hundred thousand jobless citizens in each of the states of the federation, the economic multiplier effects across the country would go a long way in reducing unemployment and crime.
