The Parish Council Vice Chairman of Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Prof Edward Abbah has suggested workable ways of living peacefully in Nigeria, despite the multi-religious nature of the country.
He made this known in Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, Ahmadu Belo University, Zaria, Monday, 27th May, 2024, when he spoke on the topic, ‘Religion: An Instrument for Nation Building and Peaceful Coexistence,’ during the ongoing Laity Week across archdioceses and dioceses in the country.
He noted that Nigeria is a circular nation unlike a religious one where one religion dictates the affairs of the state. Acknowledging the major religions in the country, the anchor maintained that agreement among Nigerians is bound to bring about the harmony and peace that will resultantly translate into peaceful coexistence.
Lamenting the neglect of the needs of the masses by those in power, he stated that some political leaders of different faiths have failed in their promises, even as he disclosed that nation building, the duty of all, is better attained when the people are empowered and carried along.
Prof Abbah summed that, “Peace is synonymous with harmony and tranquility without rancor. Co-existence suggests more than one person in the setup – diverse people staying together, notwithstanding religious, political affiliations. It is having several people staying together with peace in the middle. We cannot build a nation without peace.”
