The Metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha, Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, has urged Christians to cultivate a deeper relationship with God by embracing love and compassion towards their neighbours.
In his homily during a Mass at St Joseph’s parish Awka Etiti last Sunday,November 3rd, 2024, Archbishop Okeke emphasized the importance of living a life rooted in faith, love, and service to others. He reminded the congregation that loving one’s neighbour is a fundamental principle of Christianity.
“We are called to be disciples of Christ, and this requires us to love our neighbours as ourselves,” Archbishop Okeke said. “By doing so, we draw closer to the Kingdom of God.”
The Archbishop encouraged Christians to re-examine their relationships with others, striving to be instruments of peace, forgiveness, and reconciliation.
“In a world filled with conflicts and divisions, we must be beacons of hope and love,” he emphasized. “Let us seek to understand and support one another, rather than judging or condemning.”
Archbishop Okeke also highlighted the importance of prayer, sacraments, and self-reflection in deepening one’s faith.
“As we journey towards the Kingdom of God, we must nurture our spiritual lives through prayer, participation in the sacraments, and sincere self-reflection,” he said.
The Archbishop’s message resonated deeply with the congregation, inspiring them to recommit to living out their faith in love and service to others.
In conclusion, Archbishop Okeke invoked God’s blessings upon the faithful, saying, “May our love for God and neighbour guide us on our path towards eternal life.”
