In a commendable act of corporate social responsibility, the Chinese engineering firm, Mo Zhotian Construction Company, has awarded scholarships to no fewer than 600 students from Igwebuike Grammar School in Awka, Anambra State.
The scholarships, which cover students in SS1 to SS3, will span one academic session, as announced by the Managing Director of Mo Zhotian Construction Company, Tu Makuan. This generous initiative is aligned with the educational policies of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, particularly the drive for free education in the state.
Makuan expressed the company’s commitment to supporting education, stating, “We are here to announce the sponsorship of school fees for students from SS1 to SS3 for one academic year. If we get more jobs, we will do more for you. This is part of our corporate social responsibility.” He also conveyed the company’s admiration for Igwebuike Grammar School, especially while working on the nearby Solution Fun City construction project.
The State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, recognized the dedication and commitment displayed by both the school’s teachers and students, leading to this generous scholarship offer. She expressed her gratitude to the company and encouraged others to follow this philanthropic example, saying, “I have passion for the school because of your dedication to your studies. I have seen several students on the road during school hours, but I have not seen any of your students. The spirit of academics you exhibit has paid off. If you are good at what you do, whether students or teachers, nature will always reward you. Someone else saw what I saw in you and decided to extend an arm of philanthropy to you.”
Chinedu Anago, the Senior Prefect of Igwebuike Grammar School, extended heartfelt appreciation to Mo Zhotian Construction Company on behalf of the scholarship recipients. He pledged that the students would redouble their commitment to their studies to justify the scholarships awarded to them.
