In a landmark event marking the second anniversary of its dedication, St. Peter’s Parish in Ugwuagba-Obosi witnessed the solemn union of 31 couples in holy matrimony. The occasion drew a large gathering of faithful, who came to celebrate the profound commitment of these couples as they exchanged vows in a sacramental ceremony.
The event began with a Mass celebrated by Fr. Cosmas Uzodimma, the chief celebrant, who emphasized the significance of the day. In his opening remarks, Fr. Uzodimma emphasized the importance of the sacrament of marriage, noting that the love shared by the couples was a demonstration of their deep bond. “Matrimony is not just a covenant but a sacrament,” he stated, “and the joy with which these couples enter this covenant will, by the grace of God, remain a permanent fixture in their lives.”
The homily, delivered by Rev. Fr. Christopher Oguguo, further highlighted the spiritual essence of marriage. Fr. Oguguo encouraged the newlyweds to keep God at the center of their union, reminding them that their marriage is a reflection of the divine love between God and His bride, the Church. He urged the couples to remain steadfast in their marital vows, using the love they share as a guide through life’s inevitable challenges. “Let the love you have promised each other be your anchor in times of difficulty,” he advised.
As the Mass drew to a close, Rev. Fr. Nwafor Chukwuemeka, the parish priest, expressed his gratitude to all who participated in the event, acknowledging the presence of clergy and parishioners alike. He extended special thanks to Fr. Cosmas Uzodimma, the chief celebrant; Fr. Christopher Oguguo, the homilist; and Fr. Austin Nwosu, who concelebrated the Mass.
In a post-event interview with Trinitas, the parish priest shared his joy and gratitude for the successful celebration. He reiterated the sacred nature of marriage, describing it not merely as a contract but as an eternal covenant that binds couples together until death. “Marriage is a sacrament of covenant,” he affirmed, “a divine union that must be cherished and nurtured with love, faith, and mutual respect.”
He concluded by advising the newlyweds to take to heart the counsel provided by the Church during the ceremony. “By embracing the teachings of the Church, these couples will embark on a new life grounded in the love of God and the love of each other,” Fr. Chukwuemeka said, adding a prayerful wish for their continued happiness and unity.
The event at St. Peter’s Parish, Ugwuagba-Obosi, will undoubtedly be remembered as a momentous occasion, not only for the couples involved but for the entire parish. ,
