It was an atmosphere of excitement and joy as the Archbishop Valerian Okeke Music Academy (AVOMA)celebrated it’s 10th anniversary at the Basilica of the most Holy Trinity last Sunday.
The event began with a holy mass where the Metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha,most Rev Valerian Okeke recalled in his homily that his vision for creating the academy was to harness the talents of the young ones and also sharpen their brains to become better students in academics and other human endeavours.
The Archbishop looked back and expressed joy that some of the members of the academy have become graduates while others have become useful members of the society.
The Archbishop’s homily which theme was anchored on the incontestability of God’s power and His promises,urged christians to use powers given to them by God for common good wherever they find themselves.
He urged parents to train their children in Catholic schools instead of wasting huge sums of money to send out their children where their faith and christian background are eroded and compromised.
The Archbishop further pointed out that inspite of many years of persecution of the church,it has continued to flourish and spreading the good news of Jesus Christ.
The Archbishop while concluding urged Christians to form a strong relationship with Jesus Christ by visiting the Blessed Sacrament frequently and the promise of God will manifest in their lives.
In his remarks,the Director of AVOMA,Rev Fr John Ezeanowai thanked the Archbishop for his financial and spiritual support to the academy.Fr John also thanked parents and other supporters of the Academy for their benevolence.He pointed out that the vision of the Archbishop was in pursuit of excellence and bettering the lives of the youths.
Later at the evening session at the Bishop Shanahan auditorium where the event proper took place,the Chancellor of the Archdiocese Rev Fr Dr Emeka Aroh who represented the Archbishop re-echoed the vision of the Archbishop saying that the Archbishop’s vision was aimed at sharpning the minds of the the kids and make them responsible people in future.
Patron of AVOMA Engr Johnbosco Okonkwo who was represented by Hon Ikenna Unachukwu said he keyed into the Archbishop’s vision and partnered with him to by supporting the Academy.
He said the sky was the limit of the AVOMA kids adding that further exposure of the members abroad will make them shine.
Dignitaries at the occassion include Engr (Sir)Ikem Osanakpo,Chief Sir T O Chiegboka,Chief Barth Eli,priests and religious and parents,guardians and youths.
It was really a fun filled outing.
